Creative Folk

kensfolk meetkens folk meet uppkens folk

I had the pleasure of attending yet another meet up, it seems like these events are really starting to become a part of my routine. This one was held by Kendall Hanna of Kensfolk, this lady is such an inspiration. You guys can check out some of her photography and her blog (here). I can't believe I had never met her even though we literally worked right across from each other! She is fairly new to Houston so she held the event so that she could meet more "creatives" in the area. I'm also kind of growing on the term creatives, I never imaged someone let alone a group of people considering me somewhat of an artist. The group had people I would really consider artists like architects and photographers. I like the idea of getting groups of people together whom may never talk to each other in their everyday life's and putting them together and seeing them bond over similar interest. I've met so many sweet people and have found a sense of belonging. Living in Houston has its perks but it's definitely not New York or Los Angeles, the fashion and art community aren't as big. So when there's an opportunity to be part of the small creative community I make sure to be there. I look forward to more meet ups and making new friends. Before I go lets talk about how much I wear this blazer, if you read my post about going to Austin you'll remember seeing this thrifted beauty. I've seen so many casual looks including blazers so I kept it really simple and tied up my shirt underneath for a little midrift action. I'm a fan of showing a little stomach when I'm all covered up, it just adds a little sass. Since the weather is starting to warm up I'm finally going to be able to wear crop tops and dresses again so I can't wait to show y'all what I come up with! Until next time, byeee <3

Rain or Shine

DSC_7499DSC_7537DSC_7509

Hello beautiful people! I have a very quick ootd for what I consider an errand day. Yesterday Shelby and I met up, I know it doesn't seem like from the way I post but we actually haven't seen each other in a few weeks. I think its because we are constantly texting and chatting on Instagram so it never really feels like we've missed anything. We got yummy lunch from Pei Wei which we devoured so no pictures of that(oops). Then we headed to Target to look at cameras and things we don't really need of course. Both of us are investing in a new camera, I'm looking for one that records also so I can start making vlgos(YAYYY). So if you guys can recommend any let me know! Back to the outfit though, you all know I love me some basic pieces and this outfit is so comfy and simple. I've literally been living in these rain boots, it was raining the morning of when we took pictures and then suddenly got super bright as soon as we made it to Target. Also, shout out to Shelby for helping with the pictures! She's learning how to use my camera and she did a pretty good job! Happy Saturday y'all <33

It's Not that Uncommon

DSC_7179DSC_7155

Two post in one week? I hope everyone is as excited and proud as I am! This is Shelby from uncommonbeing, most of you guys have already heard me talk about her and her blog. For those who don't know this is my friend/thrifting partner. I take pictures for her blog and drag her to events I'm too shy to go to by myself. These are some that I took from our latest thrifting trip, I loved this outfit(you guys know stripes + overalls are my holy grail). The one thing I love about her is that she really doesn't care about peoples opinions on how she dresses. She's gotten me out of my comfort zone maybe not to the point of wearing a cute lacey bralette as a shirt but I'm getting there! If you love the bohemian vibe she's definitely your girl, and she has the biggest jewelry collection I've ever seen. If you guys like seeing how my friends dress I'll do more posts and interview them about their style. Maybe I'll even make it a little segment with fun questions, we'll see! Also, before I get too carried away I made a bloglovin account. I got a few emails from you guys saying that you added me on it so I checked it out and now all my posts will be linked there to make it easier to stay in touch and see what I'm up to. You can even download the app(which I'm already obsessed with).
Until next time, byeee <3

In-N-Outta Austin

DSC_7285DSC_7282DSC_7292

First off, hello beauties! I feel like its been forever since I've talked about my latest adventure..but then again I haven't been on a lot of outings because of this bummy weather. It's been freezing and raining like crazy here in Houston. I'm imagining this is how it feels to live in the UK, well close enough. My mother and I have been planning a day trip to Austin to visit my older sister but every day that we tried to go was cancelled because of the ice on the highways. Finally it cleared up last week and I was able to drive us there, it was sprinkling on and off so I tried to get some pictures when we entered Bastrop, Texas. I was literally shaking and trying to help my mom figure out how to use my camera. (shout out to my momma for trying her best!) I'm getting back to classics and was excited I could finally where this blazer I thrifted from Family Thrift store w/ Shelby from uncommonbeing. I told you guys she's been helping me find more classic pieces that go with my style. I've actually got a good amount of sweaters and jackets lately so maybe a haul will be in order to show my little gems. This was just a day trip so we did a little thrifting before we picked up my sister from work then did a little driving around and I ended up seeing In-N- Out Burger and couldn't pass up trying their burgers! We don't have on in Houston so I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I don't really eat meat so I can't say I'm a trustworthy food critic but I did really like the burger and fries, I'd say it's a step up from Dairy Queen but not Red Robbin level. If you guys have those hamburger joints then you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. Overall I had a nice time seeing my sister since I barely get to visit but I should be going back for SXSW in March. I'm already planning some outfit ideas for the festival so I can't wait to get it all together, I'll probably do a few inspiration posts from my Polyvore account so look out for those! As always, its been a pleasure and I'll be back soon! Stay Gold, Ponyboy

DSC_6741DSC_6717

So, some of you may already know...I colored my hair! I finally got rid of the reddish brown I had in my hair from July. This is my third time dying my hair so I guess the third time is really the charm. I mentioned that I would start including post about my hair since most of my readers are naturals and want to hear more about it. I got this color done on Monday, it took about four hours to get this end result. I have a lot of hair and on top of that it's super thick so my stylist did the coloring in a three step process; she first lifted my color that had grown out, then lifted my roots, and then finally put the toner with the color that I wanted. I got the coloring done at Aveda Salon which is known for their color specialists so I wasn't worried at all. This is the second time that I've gotten it done professionally, the first time was in June but the stylist underestimated the level needed to lift my natural black hair color so there was no difference. The second time my friends used boxed Shea Moisture hair dye in the color light blonde to give me the reddish brown color I had up until now. This time I wanted to go a lot lighter and I used pictures of Rihanna and Beyonce for the shade of golden brown that I was going for and I love the color I got. I did ask to have my roots darker so it wouldn't look too unnatural and once my roots do grow out it will have an ombre effect so I don't have to get it touched up too often. Bye deerlings <3

Walk on the Wild Side

DSC_6607DSC_6623

I know I've mentioned before the weather here in Houston, but let me tell you it is no joke. Just two days ago it was in the seventies and now its in the forties. I wore this outfit to go to the mall with a friend. I'm not big on wearing jackets but I definitely was freezing through out the day, I layered what I consider is a basic outfit. I've had these tights for a year and couldn't figure how to style them without looking like I was wearing a costume. I'm starting to get more comfortable mixing prints and patterns, this look is just a quick thrown together kinda look which I love. I like when an outfit just puts itself together and somehow works. You guys know I like a chill look and this is definitely very laid back. If you noticed my hair is different, I'm a little obsessed with wearing two buns now. For this look I just blew out my hair and then made two little ponytails and turned them into messy buns. Also, if you follow me on instagram (here) you know I live in this jacket. I can't tell you how much I wear it but I mean it was only five bucks from a thrift store!
Hope you guys are having a nice weekend! Bye <33
